Randomness: Bandai Taking Orders For Char Zaku Cakes

Let’s face it: no matter how great the holiday season is, it can always use more Gundam. Unfortunately, the need for Gundam goes unwanted year after year as fans sit and pray for some new way to cram more mobile suit goodness into their lives. Those years of praying are about to pay off, as Bandai announced a new Gundam-themed cake that will hit just in time for Christmas!

Earlier today, The Asahi Shimbun reported that the Premium Bandai website is taking orders for a “Char Zaku Cake Set.” The cake, which is baked by Yellow Pumpkin, will be modeled after the head of the MS-06S, Char Aznable’s custom Zaku Robot.

The cake itself will be a strawberry-flavored pastry with a chocolate mousse filling. The suit’s eye is made from sugar. In addition to the cake, the set comes with a gilded red plate bearing Char’s emblem, as well as a gilded fork. The emblem will be made by an unnamed artisan in Tsubame, Niigita Prefecture.

While the package is tantalizing, every Gundam fan knows that Char doesn’t come cheap. The cake set is priced at 4,800 yen ($48.41USD), which includes tax. Premium Bandai will take a limited number of pre-orders that will ship to customers in mid-December, just in time for the holidays.
