They Will Rock You! FUNimation Adds Show By Rock!!

Earlier today, FUNimation announced that they acquired the domestic rights to Show By Rock!!. The company plans a streaming simulcast of the series, though details were not announced as of press time.

Show By Rock!! is based on Sanrio’s smart phone game of the same name. The series, which begins airing on April 5, will be animated by Bones and directed by Takahiro Ikezoe (Ozma, Chaika – The Coffin Princess episode 11). The confirmed voice cast is as follows:

  • Cyan: Eri Inagawa (Pac-World)
  • Chuchu: Sumire Uesaka (Love, Chunibyo, & Other Delusions, KanColle)
  • Moa: Ayane Sakura (Love Live!, Psycho-Pass)
  • Retoree: Manami Numakura (Aikatsu!, IDOLM@STER)
  • Crow: Kisho Taniyama (Attack on Titan, A Certain Magical Index)
  • Yaiba: Tetsuya Kakihara (Pandora Hearts, High School of the Dead)
  • Rom: Yoshimasa Hosoya (Akame ga KILL!, Kids on the Slope)
  • Daru Dayu: Megumi Han (Happiness Charge PreCure!, Yowamushi Pedal)
  • A: Eriko Matsui (Akame ga KILL!, Log Horizon)
  • Un: Saori Hayami (Bakuman, Monogatari Series Second Season)
  • Shū☆zō: Mamoru Miyano (Tokyo Ghoul, K)
  • Kai: Ryota Ohsaka (Knights of Sidonia, Log Horizon)
  • Riku: Ayumu Murase (Haikyu!!, Nobunagun)
  • Logia: Rina Hidaka (Accel World, Tiger & Bunny)

FUNimation’s reveal included a short synopsis, which you can check out below:

Set in the glamorous metropolis Tokyo Midi City, where music—and the dream of musical superstardom—is everything. Here, “battle of the bands” is more than just a teen rivalry: Dozens of ensembles compete for the honor of playing atop the city’s highest tower. When a Gothic Lolita-clad catgirl cutie named Cyan stumbles into the music world, she too is swept up by the dream of fame. After joining forces with three other colorful characters—bunnygirl honor student Chuchu, shy doggirl Retoree, and adorable sheepgirl Moa—the quartet becomes Plasmagica, the freshest band on the scene. Armed with special instruments, the girls face off with other bands striving for stardom, like the cool and passionate Visual Kei band Shingan Crimsonz, or the handsome pop idols Trichronika. Will the band find celebrity? Or are they doomed to be one-hit-wonders…
