Madoka Magica’s Gen Urobuchi Penning Godzilla Anime Film


So, Gen Urobuchi, a man who’s skilled at portraying the monster of humanity, is taking a crack at the King of the Monsters!

Earlier; today, Toho announced that they are working on a Godzilla animated film. The title, simply titled Godzilla will be penned by Gen Urobuchi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Psycho-Pass), and animated by Polygon Pictures (Knights of Sidonia, Ajin).

The film’s official website opened earlier today, with a key visual and the first crew confirmations.

Kobun Shizuno (Knights of Sidonia) will helm the project with Hiroyuki Seshita (Blame!). As of press time, the film is slated for a 2017 début.

Godzilla is one of the most iconic movie monsters in film history. The creäture was created by Tomoyuki Tanaka, Ishirō Honda, and Eiji Tsubaraya. He first appeared in Godzilla (Gojira) in 1954. Since his creation, Godzilla has become synonymous with Japanese pop culture, and appeared in over 35 films.

The most recent feature, Shin Godzilla, was helmed by Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno. The feature opened in Japanese theaters on July 29. Funimation currently holds the rights to the feature, and plans to give it a North American theatrical run later this year.
