First Roles, Character Visuals, & Premiere Date Unveiled For Tiger Mask W Anime


In the words of good ol’ J.R., we have a slobber knocker brewing tonight, as Tiger Mask steps into the ring!

Earlier this month, the staff from the Tiger Mask W (“Tiger Mask Double”) unveiled the show’s cast. The series will star the following:

  • Naoto Azuma/Tiger Mask: Taku Yashiro
  • Takuma Fujii/Tiger the Dark: Yuichiro Umehara
  • Haruna Takaoka: Suzuko Mimori
  • Kazuchika Okada: Masakazu Morita
  • Hiroshi Tanahashi: Kenichi Suzumura

The reveal was made at TV Asahi’s “Roppongi Hills Natsu Matsuri Summer Station” fan event, which was held on August 17. Previously, the cast members were announced, though the roles weren’t officially revealed at the time.

Tiger Mask W begin airing on TV Asahi in October. A specific date wasn’t named, though the show will run on Saturday evenings.

In July, the Tiger Mask W started streaming a 43-second teaser that outlines the general plot:

Tiger Mask W is based on Ikki Kajiwara and Naoki Tsuji’s Tiger Mask manga. Toshiaki Komura (Ultimate Muscle, Magical Twilight) is directing the series at Toei Animation, with Hisashi Kagawa (Fresh Pretty Cure, Toriko) providing character designs. Katsuhiko Chiba (Rune Soldier, Freedom) is in charge of series composition. The team of -yaiba- and Yasuharu Takanashi will score the soundtrack, while Yoshito Watanabe handles art design. Junichi Hayama will direct the show’s action scenes.

The show’s opening theme, Ike! Tiger Mask (Go! Tiger Mask), and ending theme King of the Wild will be performed by Shonan no Kaze.

The New Japan Pro-Wrestling organization is collaborating with Toei to produce Tiger Mask W. The organization’s stable of wrestlers will appear in the show under their real names. Both companies intend to stream the show globally.
