Puffy AmiYumi To Perform At Anime Boston 2017

It’s time for Boston to say “Hi Hi” to Puffy AmiYumi!

Earlier today, Anime Boston announced that J-Pop group Puffy AmiYumi will attend Anime Boston 2017 as guests. The group will perform at the convention, though specifics on the concert have yet to be announced.

Puffy AmiYumi have been active in the music industry since 1996. Vocalist Ami signed on with Sony as part of the group “Hanoi Sex.” Though the group eventually dissolved, Ami was convinced to stay with the label, and recorded a solo CD.

Yumi signed on to Sony after passing an audition during the company’s Chotto Sokomade talent search. She moved from Osaka to Tokyo and ultimately met Ami by chance at a concert after-party. The two hit things off immediately. As they were both trying to find an identity within the music world, Ami and Yumi requested they be paired as a duo.

Since then, the group has gone on to record thirteen studio albums, four compilation albums, two remix albums, twelve video albums and thirty two singles. Their first album, AmiYumi, hit retailers on July 22, 1996 and managed to reach #3 in Oricon’s weekly charts. Their most recent album, Thank You, hit stores on March 9, 2011.

Puffy AmiYumi also released five albums in North America, with the most recent, Bring It! hitting stores on July 21, 2009. The group is best known in the west for performing the theme song for Teen Titans, and starring in 2004 animated series Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi.
