JAM Project and Otakon To Host Anisong World Matsuri Event


It’s not just a county festival, nor is it a state festival, We’re talking about a world festival!

On Thursday, Otakon announced that they will host this year’s Anisong World Matsuri music festival. The event will be headlined by JAM Project, as well as other artists, who will be named at a later date.

The Anisong World Matsuri will be held in Washington DC from August 11 – 13, along with Otakon. Concerts will be held on the 11th and 12th, though festival events will be held throughout the weekend.

The Anisong World Matsuri was first held at Anime Expo 2016. The event, which is a Lantis, Sony Music Entertainment Japan Inc., Amuse, Bandai Visual, Bandai Namco Live Creative, and Anime Consortium Japan, featured performances by JAM Project, Eir Aoi, and T.M. Revolution among other guests. The event at Otakon will mark the first time it’s been held on the east coast.

JAM Project first made its début in 2000. The group, whose name is short for “Japan Animation-song Makers Project”, currently includes the following members:

  • Hironobu Kageyama (Dragon Ball Z, Shin Getter Robo)
  • Masaaki Endoh (Cowboy Bebop, GaoGaiGar: King of Braves)
  • Hiroshi Kitadani (One Piece, Bakuto Sengen Daigunder)
  • Masami Okui (Revolutionary Girl Utena, The Slayers franchise)
  • Yoshiki Fukuyama (Macross 7, Overman King Gainer)

The group has made numerous appearances in North America, including three performances at Otakon (Otakon 2008, Otakon Music Fest 2012, Otakon Vegas 2015), and Anime Boston 2014.
