Crunchyroll Adds Samurai Troopers, More Miss Machiko To Streaming Lineup

It’s time to turn the clocks back to a time when shoulder pads were big, hair was crimped, and neon was all the rage. Buckle up, folks, because we’re headed back to the ’80s!

Earlier today, Crunchyroll announced that they added Samurai Troopers (Legendary Armor Samurai Troopers / Yoroiden Samurai Troopers), as well as Episodes 23 – 45 of Miss Machiko to their digital catalog. Both shows are available in the United States and Canada, while Miss Machiko is also streaming in the UK and South Africa.

Samurai Troopers is a 1988 series from Sunrise. Masashi Ikeda (eps. 1-19, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Doomed Megalopolis) and Mamoru Hamatsu (eps 20-39, Glass Mask, Lupin III: Return of Pycal) directed the project, which features the team of Norio Shioyama (Armored Trooper Votoms, Panzer World Galient) and Akihiro Kanayama (Tosho Daimos, Koha Ginjiro) on character designs.

In the west, the series was edited and distributed by Graz Entertainment under the title Ronin Warriors. Ocean Productions produced the show’s dub.

Crunchyroll describes Samurai Troopers as:

Long ago, there existed an evil spirit that waged a war to conquer the human world. Defeat drove him back to the realm of darkness, but not before vowing to return and exact his revenge. A thousand years later, the world has all but forgotten the name of Arago, Emperor of Doom. When black clouds smother the bright city lights of Shinjuku, and a sinister laugh drowns out the dying hum of electricity, the people of the world plunge into terror, unprepared for the evil spirit’s return! An ancient fortress of stone appears over the modern glass buildings of the city, and as the armies of the human world launch an attack, their own weapons turn against them, rendering them useless. In the face of this overwhelming power, hope is no where to be found. But not everything is lost! As despair grips the city, five young men emerge, wearing mystical armor said to grant strength enough to defeat Arago once and for all! But despite the might of their armor, Ryo of the Wildfire, Toma of the Heavens, Shu of the Stone, Shin of the Torrent, and Seiji of the Nimbus, will have to join together and learn to work as a team if they are to have any chance of defeating the armies of the Empire of Doom, including the Four Warlords, who possess mystical armor of their own!

Miss Machiko is a 1981 anime series, based on Takeshi Ebihara’s manga of the same name. Kenji Terada (Cat’s Eye, Dirty Pair) wrote the scripts for the 95-episode series, which was produced by Studio Pierrot.

Crunchyroll describes the show as:

The mischievous students of Arama Academy meet their match in a beautiful and clever new teacher, Miss Machiko! But they’re determined to find a prank that will really humiliate her.

Miss Machiko is the first of Discotek Media’s planned “Streaming Exclusive” titles. These shows may not not warrant physical releases at the time of release, but will be considered for DVD editions if they perform strongly.
