New Devilman Anime, Devilman Crybaby, To Be Directed By Masaaki Yuasa


Masaaki Yuasa is taking has kicked hearts, played mind games, and gave life to ping pong. Now, he’s setting his sights on something a bit darker.

Earlier today, the Science SARU animation studio’s Twitter account revealed that a new Devilman anime is in the works. The new show, titled Devilman Crybaby, will make a global début on Netflix in spring 2018 as a “Netflix Original.” The show will be available in 190 countries, with 25 subtitles languages and nine dialogue tracks.

Devilman Crybaby will be a co-production between Aniplex and Dynamic Planning. Masaaki Yuasa (Ping Pong the Animation, Mind Game) will direct the title at Science SARU studio, with Ichiro Okouchi (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, Berserk: The Golden Age films) writing the screenplay. The Eunyoung Choi will serve as animation producer on the project. Kensuke Ushio will score the soundtrack.

Devilman Crybaby is being produced to celebrate Go Nagai’s 50th anniversary as a creative force in the industry. Nagai and Yuasa will co-host a presentation at AnimeJapan on March 25.
