Yamakan’s “Twilight” Anime Reaches Crowdfunding Goal

Trust me, there are no sparkly vampiers in this one.

Earlier today, the Campfire crowdfunding campaign for original anime project Twilight (Hakubo) reached its funding goal of 15 million yen ($136,259.27 USD). The campaign is still ongoing, with funding set to close on April 29.

With the funding goal reached, Twilight will enter production, with an estimated 2018 premiere date.

Yutaka “Yamakan” Yamamoto is credited with the original concept, script, direction and sound direction on the project. Sunao Chikaoka () will take charge of character designs on the title. Twilight Studio will produce the animation.

Other confirmed crew members include:

  • Color Design: Fuyuto Muraguchi
  • Sound Production: Yo Yamada
  • Music: Sohei Kano

The confirmed voice cast includes Kana Hanazawa, Kaori Fukuhara, and Sumi Shimamoto.

Yamamoto pitched Twilight as the finale of his “Tohoku trilogy” which, as the name implies, is set in Japan’s Tohoku region. The feature will revolve around two youths in modern-day Iwaki City, Fukushima, following 2011’s Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. Yamamoto noted that he came up with the concept over two decades ago, while he was in college. While he pondered a good perspective in which he could depict Fukushima, he recalled this idea, and set it in Tohoku.

A brief concept trailer for Twilight was posted at the launch of the campaign. You can check it out below:
