“The Rising of the Shield Hero” Gets First Staff & PV At Anime Expo 2017

So… I guess “The Shield Hero Rises” was taken.

Earlier today, Kadokawa unveiled the first promotional video for the upcoming The Rising of the Shield Hero anime series. The two-minute trailer introduces the major characters, and offers a look at the show in action. The video features English narration and text, with Japanese subtitles.

In addition, Kadokawa revealed the first staff members attached to the project. Takao Abo (Norn9) will direct the project at Kinema Citrus, with Masahiro Suwa providing character designs. Keigo Koyanagi is in charge of story editing.

Kadokawa describes The Rising of the Shield Hero as:

Naofumi, an ordinary student, is summoned into another world as a ‘Shield Hero‘. What is waiting for him in this world? The popular novel series is being adapted into an anime!

On June 22, Yoshimi Books’ Osada, Shizuoka location tweeted out a flyer for the project.

Aneko Yusagi and illustrator Minami Seira’s The Rising of the Shield Hero began publication in 2013. To date, seventeen volumes have been published, with the most recent book hitting stores on March 25. Volume 18 will ship to stores on July 25.

Aiya Kyū launched a manga adaptation of The Rising of the Shield Hero in the pages of Media Factory’s Monthly Comic Flapper in 2014. To date, seven volumes have been released.

One Peace Books holds the domestic rights for the The Rising of the Shield Hero novels. They describe the title as:

Naofumi Iwatani, an uncharismatic otaku who spends his days on games and manga, suddenly finds himself summoned to a parallel universe! He discovers he is one of four heroes equipped with legendary weapons and tasked with saving the world from its prophesied destruction. As the Shield Hero, the weakest of the heroes, all is not as it seems. Naofumi is soon alone, penniless, and betrayed. With no one to turn to, and nowhere to run, he is left with only his shield. Now, Naofumi must rise to become the legendary Shield Hero and save the world!
