2011 Spring Cleaning Anime Challenge

As months go by, and life goes on, many things tend to get neglected. Over the past year, I’ve managed to amass a fairly deep viewing backlog, both through purchases and review screeners. Unfortunately, this isn’t the type of problem I can simply ignore. Instead, the longer I wait, and the more I procrastinate, the worse things are going to get. Frankly, it’s time to do something.

Matt Brown, a close friend and long-time comrade, suggested a challenge to plow through this tangle of DVDs and Blu-Ray discs:

  • The participant watches through a show or film of his choosing. This can be anything – a title seen but never reviewed, a title never seen, or anything in-between.
  • After watching, the participant will then write a brief review or article on the title.
  • The next title in line will then be decided by mob rule, with polls on the site or on social media like Twitter or Facebook being used as key deciding points. This will be a multiple-choice affair, with 3-5 titles offered by the participant. These titles will be shows that the participant has not seen before.
  • The participant then watches through this show, and writes a corresponding piece.
  • The process repeats.

Ideally, this will be used to highlight titles that may not always receive the most attention, or the most love from the larger community. While not every title will be a hit, it will hopefully allow us to start whittling down the expanding backlog.

All bloggers and writers are welcome to participate. If you are interested, please e-mail me at mikef_ah@animeherald.com with your site info. I’ll post a list of participants beginning on May 14. The challenge will run until the last day of June, which would ideally allow for one full cycle.
