Nerdy Talk, Episode 1

It’s here, it’s here, our first podcast is here! And this first edition is a bit of a doozy! We talk about everything from Miyazaki’s thoughts on otaku, to the various shows from Bee Train. Plus, you get to hear me say “come at me, bro!” What could be more exciting?

Oh, right! The podcast!

Anyway, this inaugural installment of Nerdy Talk features the active Herald Staff:

  • Mike Ferreira
  • Matt Brown
  • Anthony Simpson
  • Dorian Chadwick
  • Benjamin Fennell

The podcast is below, we’ll be adding audio and iTunes links once they’re set to go.

SHOW NOTES

20:00:

Podcast Wake Up Girls

21:49: The Lost Universe episode “Yashigani Hofuru”, or “Coconut Crabs Kill!” in the western release, was originally worked on by Korean company San Ho Studios. The production materials were lost in transit, leaving the studio with only basic production manuals to work with for the episode. The final result was so god-awful, that it prompted a rework for future releases.

22:28:
Podcast Kamichama Karin Derp Eyes

46:07: We previously covered the Nichijou sitution. It was a sales disaster that failed to break even.

52:14: Really – you need to see CROWDS.

53:00: The rights to Speed Racer reverted to Tatsunoko in December 2013.

1:24: Mike was off. Attack on Titan took five of the top 20 spots in Bookscan.

1:32:56: ADV exists, and actually filed a counter-claim to a lawsuit by FUNimation in 2012.

1:50 – Dr. Masharito was indeed modeled after Akira Toriyama’s first editor, Kazuhiko Torishima. Torishima is a noted fan of romance, and pushed to have character romances in the titles he edited.

1:55 – Koubu are the steam-powered combat suits featured in the Sakura Wars series of video games.
