Hokago no Pleiades Gets TV Series, Reunites Original Cast

If you haven’t heard of Hokago no Pleiades, then you’re not alone. The four-episode series was a co-production between Gainax and auto maker Subaru, that was released on YouTube in 2011.

It was a magical girl series, that revolved around a young lady named Subaru. Subaru is a girl who, by a twist of fate, finds herself thrust into the life of a magical girl. Subaru discovers that her friend Aoi is one of several magical girls, all of whom are working to send a being from the Pleiades star system home. To do so, the girls must gather the various engine fragments so that the being’s ship may once again start moving.

To be honest, it’s easier to just watch the first episode to get an idea of what’s going on. It’s cheesy, but it does work, on some level. Doubly so, if one considers that it’s basically a pseudo-marketing push by Subaru.

Anyway, it looks like the franchise is getting a new lease on life. This time, though, it’ll be on TV, rather than confined to YouTube.

The six lead actors, Natsumi Takamori, Ayuru Ōhashi, Kanako Tateno, Yui Makino, Saki Fujita and Houko Kuwashima, will reunite for a Hōkago no Pleiades production presentation that will introduce the series’s official follow-up.

Subaru tweeted about the event, stating that they’ll using a lottery approach to give out tickets. 150 lucky winners will be granted entrance to the event, which will be held on December 16 at Tokyo’s Subaru Star Square.

At the moment, no further details are known, though I wouldn’t doubt that we’ll see some interesting activity on Subaru and Gainax’s social media accounts next week!
