Hulu’s anime library gained a bit of Gainax traction this week. Sentai Filmworks began adding episodes to Wish Upon the Pleiades to the service for both standard and Hulu Plus members.

Currently, the first episode is available in subtitled format, though more are expected to be added in the future. As with all Hulu content, the stream is only available to US residents.

Wish Upon the Pleiades is a collaborative work between Gainax (Neon Genesis Evangelion, His & Her Circumstances) and auto maker Subaru. Shouji Saeki is directing the series, and Mai Otsuka is providing character designs.

The voice cast is as follows:

  • Subaru: Natsumi Takamori
  • Aoi: Ayuru Ōhashi
  • Minato: Houko Kuwashima
  • Itsuki: Kanako Tateno
  • Nanako: Saki Fujita
  • Pleiades Alien: Saki Fujita
  • Hikaru: Yui Makino
  • Hikaru’s mother: Emi Shinohara
  • Hikaru’s father: Kenjiro Tsuda

The franchise first entered the world as a four-episode short-form series. The four-episode series revolved around Subaru who, through some twist of fate, is thrust into the life of a magical girl. Subaru discovers that her close friend Aoi is one of several magical girls. Together, these gifted young ladies are tasked with sending a being from the Pleiades star system home. To do so, they must gather the various engine fragments from the being’s ship, so that it may be repaired.

The original series was streamed online with English subtitles, which you can check out below.

In addition to Hulu, the Wish Upon the Pleiades TV series is also streaming on Crunchyroll.
