Viz Media’s Weekly Shonen Jump announced that they will add a new series to their publication. The first chapter of Masahiro Hirakata’s Best Blue manga will kick off on July 13, as part of the Jump Start initiative.
Best Blue will begin running in North America on the same day as its Japanese début in Shonen Jump.
The Japanese publication describes the series as follows:
Swim through the center of youth!
A blue summer comes to Jump!
Aim for the legend! A boy swims alone on a remote island. But he will have a destined meeting in Aono!
Hirakata’s first title, Shinmai Fukei Kiruko-san (Rookie Policewoman Kiruko), kicked off in Shonen Jump in November 2012. The title ran through May 2013 and spanned three collected volumes.
Viz Media first unveiled their Jump Start initiative in September 2013. The program, which kicked off with Shinsuke Kondo’s Judos, ensures that the first three chapters of all new Shonen Jump titles are released in Englished on the same day as their Japanese editions.
