It’s time to d-d-d-duel!
Yesterday, 4K Media announced that they will begin distributing the subtitled version of Yu-Gi-Oh! – Duel Monsters on Crunchyroll in North America. The first five episodes are currently available, with more scheduled to hit the service on a monthly basis.
This will be the first time that Yu-Gi-Oh! will be made available in its entirety in uncut and subtitled format in North America. Previously, FUNimation released the early episodes of the series on DVD. These releases hit the market in 2004 and 2005, along with uncut DVDs of Shaman King, as part of a short-lived venture with 4Kids.
At the moment, Crunchyroll is also streaming Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s in its entirety, uncut and subtitled. The company will add Yu-Gi-Oh! GX in subtitled format in the near future.
In November, 4K Media released Yu-Gi-Oh!, Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s, and Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal in subtitled format in all territories served by the company, outside of North America.
In North America, the Yu-Gi-Oh! license is jointly held between two entities: 4K Media, and Saban’s Kidsco Media. All four properties are actively being streamed on Hulu in dubbed format, and the first dubbed season of the series is currently on Netflix.
