Toonami To Air Samurai Champloo Starting 1/2/2016

In a time that no longer exists, three wanderers travel Japan to find a man who smells of sunflowers…

Last night, Adult Swim announced that they will air Samurai Champloo during their Toonami block. The series will kick off on January 2, 2016 at 1:30AM, replacing Michiko and Hatchin in the lineup.

According to Adult Swim Vice President Jason DeMarco, the network originally attempted to add Lupin The Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine to their lineup, though they were unable to get it past Standards & Practices.

He also noted that, despite numerous responses from fans, this is the first time that Toonami will air Samurai Champloo.

Samurai Champloo is a 2004 series by Manglobe. Cowboy Bebop and Space Dandy director Shinichirō Watanabe helmed the production, while Kazuto Nakazawa (House of Five Leaves, Terror in Resonance) provided core character designs. Geneon originally released the title in North America, though FUNimation rescued the license after the company’s closing.

Toonami will host a Dragon Ball Z Kai marathon on December 19, and a One Piece marathon on December 26.
