SHAFT To Produce “March Comes In Like A Lion” Anime

March may come in like a lion, but it leaves like a lamb.

The latest issue of Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine announced that SHAFT will produce an anime adaptation of Chika Umino’s March Comes In Like A Lion (Sangatsu no Lion) manga. The series will be directed by Akiyuki Shimbo (Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Hidamari Sketch, Monogatari series).

As of press time, the series is confirmed to début on NHK.

March Comes In Like A Lion is an ongoing series, which began its run in July 2007. The title currently spans 11 collected volumes.

The title revolves around Rei, a 17-year-old professional shogi player. Rei is a bit of a hermit, who doesn’t have a real family, and keeps few friends. Among those who he calls friends, though, is a small family that includes a young woman named Akari, two young girls named Hinata and Momo, and their many cats.
