The image previously appeared in this month’s Animedia magazine, albeit in black and white.

Sailor Moon Crystal debuted on Japanese streaming service NicoNico in July 2014. During its initial run, new episodes aired on the first and third Saturdays of each month. The title’s TV broadcast wrapped up on January 10, which was followed directly by the new season’s reveal.

The show’s third season, which begins airing this spring, will revolve around the Death Busters arc of the Sailor Moon manga. The new arc brings Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune, and Sailor Saturn into the fold, as well as Mistress 9 and the malevolent Death Busters organization.

Chiaki Kon (Junjo Romantica) is replacing Munehisa Sakai, who directed the first two seasons. Akira Takahashi (Smile PreCure) will take over for Yukie Sakou as character designer on the project. Series writer Yuji Kobayashi will return to take charge of series composition.

The actors for Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune, and Sailor Saturn will be unveiled during the Nico Nico Live! streaming program on January 27.

Viz Media currently holds the rights to both Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon Crystal in North America.
