Vertical Adds Bakemonogatari Novels, Plus 3 Other Titles

Earlier today, Vertical announced that they acquired the domestic rights to Nisio Isin’s Bakemonogatari novels. The first book will hit retailers in December.

In addition, Vertical revealed that they licensed a trio of manga titles:

  • Immortal Hounds (Shinazu no Ryouken) by Ryou Yasohachi
  • BLAME master’s edition by Tsutomu Nihei
  • Dissolving Classroom by Junji Ito

Bakemonogatari is the first of the ongoing Monogatari light novel series by Nisio Isin, with illustrations by Vofan. The series, which began publication in 2005, is released in Japan under Kodansha’s “Kodansha Box” imprint. To date, 20 Monogatari books have been released. The latest, Wazamonogatari, hit Japanese retailers on January 13.

The franchise has seen several animated adaptations, all of which have been animated by studio Shaft with oversight by Akiyuki Shinbo. Titles include 2009’s Bakemonogatari, 2013’s Monogatari Series Second Season, and 2015’s Owarimonogatari.

Aniplex of America currently holds the rights to the Bakemonogatari anime series. Vertical released the Kizumonogatari light novel in December 2015.
