The series, which began publication in 2005, is released in Japan under Kodansha’s “Kodansha Box” imprint. To date, 20 Monogatari books have been released. The latest, Wazamonogatari, hit Japanese retailers on January 13.
The franchise has seen several animated adaptations, all of which have been animated by studio Shaft with oversight by Akiyuki Shinbo. Titles include 2009’s Bakemonogatari, 2013’s Monogatari Series Second Season, and 2015’s Owarimonogatari.
Aniplex of America currently holds the rights to the Bakemonogatari anime series. Vertical released the Kizumonogatari light novel in December 2015.
