New Tenchi Muyo! Dai-yon-ki Staff, Key Visual Unveiled


Like an awkward reunion, Tenchi Muyo! is coming back this fall!

Earlier today, the official Tenchi Muyo! Ryo Ohki Dai-yon-ki website updated with several announcements. News regarding the OVA’s staff, endng theme song, and fall launch all hit the site.

Series creator Masaki Kajishima is credited as chief director on the project. Hidetoshi Takahashi will fill the role of director at AIC, while Takeshi Oda (Yurumates3Dei) provides character designs. Hideki Shirane is filling the dual role of supervisor and script writer on the project.

The first OVA is slated for a fall 2016 release. Serena Kozuki is performing ending theme song Shake the DiCE, which hits stores as a single on June 28.

Tenchi Muyo! Ryo Ohki Dai-yon-ki is the fourth entry into the Tenchi Muyo! OVA franchise. The title, which was first unveiled in October 2015, is the first mainline entry into the Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki series since 2005.

The series will reunite several key cast members, including:

  • Tenchi Masaki: Masami Kikuchi
  • Ryōko Hakubi: Ai Orikasa
  • Aeka Jurai: Haruhi Nanao

Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki first entered the anime world in 1992. The 20-episode OVA spanned three distinct series, and several specials:

  • Tenchi Muyo! Ryo Ohki: Episodes 1 – 6, (1992 – 1993)
  • Tenchi Muyo! Ryo Ohki: The Night Before The Carnival: Episode 7 (1994)
  • Tenchi Muyo! Mihoshi Special: Standalone (1994)
  • Tenchi Muyo! Ryo Ohki OVA 2: Episodes 7 – 13.5 (1994 – 1995)
  • Tenchi Muyo! Ryo Ohki OVA 3: Episodes 14 – 20 (2003 – 2006)

The new series will be the first entry into the main franchise in ten years.

Since its début, Tenchi Muyo has spawned numerous spinoffs, retellings, and adaptations, including the No Need For Tenchi! manga series, the Tenchi Universe TV series, and a trilogy of feature-length films.
