Handa-kun Anime Adds Yusuke Shirai, Makoto Furukawa To Cast


Handa’s class continues to grow with each passing week.

Earlier today, the official Handa-kun anime website updated with a pair of cast confirmations. Yusuke Shirai (Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE, Divine Gate) and Makoto Furukawa (One-Punch Man) will join the series as Kei Hanada and Kotoro Higashino, respectively.

Shirai and Furukawa join six previously confirmed cast members:

  • Sei Handa: Nobunaga Shimzaziki
  • Junichi Aizawa: Yuuya Hirose
  • Reo Nikaido: Tetsuya Kakihara
  • Akane Tsutsui: Yoshimasa Hosoya
  • Yukio Kondo: Daiki Yamashita
  • Takao Kawafuji: Kazuyuki Okitsu

Handa-kun is Satsuki Yoshino’s prequel to his hit series Barakamon. The title currently runs in Shonen Gangan, with chapters also running on the publication’s website. To date, five collected volumes have been released, with the most recent hitting Japanese stores on February 12.

Yoshitaka Koyama (Miami Guns!, Rune Soldier) is directing the series at Deomedia, with Mayuko Matsumoto (KanColle) providing character designs. Michiko Yokote (Genshiken, Princess Tutu) is in charge of series composition. Ken Ito is scoring the soundtrack. Kenichi Suzumura will perform ending theme Hide-And-Seek.

Handa-kun will begin airing on July 7, with the specific schedule being as follows:

  • CBC: 7/7/2016 at 25:00 (7/8/2016 at 1:00AM)
  • TBS: 7/7/2016 at 25:58 (7/8/2016 at 1:58AM)
  • MBS: 7/8/2016 at 27:10 (7/9/2016 at 3:10AM)
  • BS-TBS: 7/9/2016 at 25:00 (7/10/2016 at 1:00AM)
  • TBS Channel 1: 7/17/2016 at 25:00 (7/18/2016 at 1:00AM)
