Last night, Adult Swima nnounced that they will air a five-part micro-series by Mamoru Oshii on their Toonami block. The series, which is being directed by Production I.G. (FLCL, Ghost in the Shell, Bunny Drop), will begin airing in 2017. Each episode is slated to be five minutes long.
Mamoru Oshii is a prolific director, best known for his philosophy-oriented style of storytelling. Oshii began working in the industry in 1977 as a storyboard artist for Ippatsu Kanta-kun. Oshii is also credited for creating the OVA (Original Video Animation) with Dallos, which was released from 1983 through 1984.
In March, Adult Swim started streaming a commercial, which was also helmed by Oshii and directed by Production I.G.
