Viz Media will do its part to fight the good fight for comic rights!
Yesterday, the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF) announced that Viz Media will join the organization’s ranks as a corporate member. As part of the initiative, Viz Media will offer copies of the Manga Book Club Handbook.
The publication is designed as a “starter guide” for fans and organizations looking to start manga clubs. It features a brief history of the medium, as well as a general guideline for setting up meetings and approaching manga from a critical angle.
The CBLDF is an American non-profit organization, which was to protect the First Amendment rights of comic creators, retailers, and publishers by covering legal expenses. The organization has been operating since 1986, and includes numerous major players in the comics industry. Member companies include:
- BOOM! Studios
- Dark Horse
- DC Comics
- Diamond Comic Distributors
- IDW Publishing
- Image Comics
- Will & Ann Eisner Family Foundation
Viz Media Senior Director Kevin Hamric commented on the news, stating:
Their proactive initiatives to inform and educate the public about manga, and their efforts as an advocate for readers, educators, and retailers of all types make them a vital organization. We are proud to contribute to their work!
