New “March Comes In Like A Lion” Visual Shows off the Shogi Crew

Though March comes in like a lion, it’s nothing compared to the dog days of summer.

Earlier today, the official March Comes in Like a Lion (Sangatsu no Lion) anime website updated with a new visual for the series. The image features Rei, along with the shōgi players who appear in the manga.

March Comes in Like a Lion is based on Chika Umino’s manga of the same name. The series will be helmed by Akiyuki Shimbo (Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Hidamari Sketch, Monogatari series) at SHAFT, with character designs by Nobuhiro Sugiyama (Nisekoi, Arakawa Under the Bridge). Yukari Hashimoto (Penguindrum, Toradora!) is scoring the show’s soundtrack.

March Comes in Like a Lion will hit Japanese TV this fall. NHK currently lists the series as having 22 episodes. Two theatrical films based on the property are also in the works, which will star Ryunosuke Kamiki, and feature direction by Keishi Ōtomo. Both films are scheduled for 2017 premieres.

The title revolves around Rei, a 17-year-old professional shogi player. Rei is a bit of a hermit, who doesn’t have a real family, and keeps few friends. Among those who he calls friends, though, is a small family that includes a young woman named Akari, two young girls named Hinata and Momo, and their many cats.
