Hulu Announces Fall 2016 Anime Simulcasts


It looks like Hulu’s getting on the simulcast game this season, as well!

Last night, streaming service Hulu unveiled their list of simulcasts for the Fall 2016 broadcast season. The company will stream the following:

  • Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Season 2 (Currently Available)
  • Matoi The Sacred Slayer (Currently Available, new episodes on Tuesdays)
  • Utano☆Princesama Legend Star: Legend Star (Currently Available, new episodes on Saturdays)
  • Flip Flappers (10/6/2016, new episodes on Thursdays)
  • ClassicaLoid (10/8/2016, new episodes on Saturdays)
  • Girlish Number (10/12/2016, new episodes on Wednesdays)
  • Naruto Shippuden (Currently Available)
  • One Piece (Currently Available)

Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans is an original series by Sunrise. The title, which began airing on October 4, 2015, was directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai (anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, A Certain Scientific Railgun) at Sunrise. Michinori Chiba (Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Someday’s Dreamers) provided character designs on the project, while Mari Okada (Black Butler, Selector Infected Wixoss) tackled series composition. The show’s second season hit Japanese TV in October 2.

Matoi The Sacred Slayer is White Fox’s first-ever original anime series. The show is being helmed by Masayuki Sakoi (Strawberry Panic!, Princess Resurrection), with character designs by Mai Toda (Holy Knight, Neppu Kairiku Bushi Road). Yosuke Kuroda (High School of the Dead, My Hero Academia) is in charge of series composition.

Utano☆Princesama Legend Star is the latest entry in the Uta no Prince-sama franchise. The series is being helmed by Takeshi Furuta (The Comic Artist and His Assistants) at A-1 Pictures, with Maki Fujioka (ItaKiss, La Corda D’Oro – primo passo) providing character designs. The team of Sayaka Konno and Tomoko Konparu (Dance with Devils, Nana) is in charge of series composition.

Flip Flappers is an original series from Studio 3Hz. Kiyotaka Oshiyama is directing, with Takashi Kojima providing character designs. ZAQ will perform opening theme song Serendipity. TO-MAS feat. Chima will provide ending theme song FLIP FLAP FLIP FLAP.

Classicaloid is an original series from Sunrise. Yoichi Fujita (Gintama, Mr. Osomatsu) is helming the project, with Seiichi Hashimoto serving as character designer. The team of Ichiro Sakaki (Chaika – The Coffin Princess, Outbreak Company) and Michihiro Tsuchiya (PriPara, Cross Game) are in charge of series composition, while Kyo Kogure, Miya Asakawa, Shū Matsubara, and Tsuyoshi Kida write the show’s scripts.

tofubeats, Tomoyasu Hotei, and Tsunku are tasked with providing the show’s music. The soundtrack will span a variety of genres from pop, to rock, electronica, and classical arrangements.

Girlish Number is based on Wataru Watari’s (with illustrators QP:flapper and Yamcha) light novel series of the same name. Shota Ibata is directing the project at Diomedéa, with Sumie Kinoshita (The Mystic Archives of Dantalian) providing character designs. Series creator Wataru Watari is in charge of series composition.

Hulu is currently available as a premium subscription service. The platform offers ad-supported streams for $7.99 per month, and a $12.99 commercial-free plan. The company did offer a free option until June. Hulu’s free offerings have since been migrated to Yahoo! View.
