“The Voice” Thailand Contestant Wins Over Judges With Anime Theme Songs

Before we begin, this isn’t like that American Idol “Jigglypuff song” guy. This is legitimately awesome.

On the October 9 episode of The Voice Thailand, judges received an audition that few would expect to see on the big stage. One contestant, decked out in a black tee shirt and blue jeans, stood on the dimly lit stage as the show returned from commercial.

Then, something incredible happened.

The lights kicked up as the familiar first bars to Dragon Ball Z theme song Cha La Head Cha La began to play. As the contender began to sing, the judges jerked to some attention. One judge laughed with joy, while another immediately locked in his vote, as the man belted out a performance that would make JAM Project singer Hironobu Kageyama green with envy.

The performance was enough to earn a unanimous vote of approval from the judges’ panel, and a loud cheer from the crowd.

He wasn’t finished, though! After a brief conversation with the panel, the contestant broke into performances of the Doraemon and Saint Seiya theme songs.

In the end, though, it was time to choose a team. Everybody wanted to know his choice and, in the end, it was #TeamJoey that won the support of this promising anime-loving virtuoso.
