Food Wars Shokugeki no Soma Visual 001 - 20160702Though the Stagiaire is over, the drama of Shokugeki continues to pit dish against dish in a battle of whose cuisine reigns supreme.

The latest issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine (Issue 47) unveiled new plot details for the Food Wars! The Second Plate (Shokugeki no Sōma: Ni no Sara) anime that will screen at this year’s Jump Special Anime Festa fan event.

The episode will feature an original story, which sends Soma and his friends to a hot springs resort for some much-needed rest and relaxation. It’s not all steamy soaks for the crew, though there is an open-air bath scene with Erina. Other highlights of the trip will include a ping-pong match between Isshiki and Megumi and a fishing duel between Soma, Ryo Kurokiba, and Akira Hayama.

Because of Risa Taneda’s recent hiatus due to illness, Erina Nakiri will be played by Hisako Kanemoto (Durarara!!, Squid Girl) in the episode.

This year’s Jump Special Anime Festa will be held in six locations:

  • 11/27/2016: Yomiuri Hall (Tokyo)

The Food Wars! anime adapts Yūto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki’s manga of the same name. The series kicked off in April 2015, and ran for 24 episodes. Yoshitomo Yonetani (Nurse Witch Komugi, Tiger & Bunny The Movie -The Rising-) directed the series at J.C. Staff, while Tomoyuki Shitaya (Bakuman, Kiss×sis) provided character designs. Scripts were provided by Shinichi Inotsume and Shogo Yasukawa.

Two seasons were produced to date. The first season, Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma, aired in the Spring and Summer broadcast seasons last year. The season spanned 24 episodes. The second season, Food Wars! The Second Plate, aired in the Summer 2016 season, and spanned 13 episodes.

Sentai Filmworks currently holds the rights to the series, which they describe as:

Shokugeki no Soma centers on Yukihira Soma, a middle school student who is determined to surpass his father’s culinary skills. One day, his father decides to close down their family restaurant and hone his skills in Europe. Before leaving he enrolls Soma in an elite culinary school that is extremely difficult to enter with a graduation rate of only 10 percent. Will Souma be able to improve his skills, or will the kitchen prove to be too hot? less
