So, who’s up for a bit of Tanuki spotting in January?
Earlier this week, the Eccentric Family 2 team announced that they will host a fan event at the Shimogamo Shrine. The event, which is being billed as a “Tanuki Gathering”, will be the first of its nature held at Shimogamo.
Tickets to the event will be priced at 2,000 yen ($17.61 USD), and released in two waves. The first wave will be an advanced lottery, which fans can enter from November 28 through December 12. Winners of the raffle will be able to claim their tickets starting December 12. Public ticket sales will open on Christmas day, at 8:00PM JST.
The cost of the ticket includes a donation to the Shimogamo Shrine.

Doors open at 10:00AM local time. The event will run from 11:00AM to 12:30PM. Attendees will receive a special merchandise package, which includes a “Fluffy Tanuki Poncho.”
The Eccentric Family 2 (Uchōten Kazoku 2), will adapt Tomihiko Morimi’s second novel in the series.
The core staff from the first season will return to work on the series, including director Masayuki Yoshihara and original character designer Kōji Kumeta Kumeta (Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei). P.A. Works will produce the show’s animation, while Lantis handles the show’s music.

The Shimogamo Shrine is a World Heritage Site, located in Kyoto. It’s one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Japan, dating back to the 6th century CE. The shrine is dedicated to the veneration of Tamayori-hime and her father, Kamo Taketsunomi. Tamayori-hime is worshipped as a deity of child-rasing and relationships, while Kamo Taketsunomi is enshrined as the guardian deity of Kyoto.
Shimogamo was officially designated one of the Kanpei-taisha from 1871 through 1946, meaning that it was in the top rank of government-supported shrines.
