All aboard the Dragon Ball hype train!

Earlier today, Funimation announced that Dragon Ball Super will air on Adult Swim’s Toonami block. Toonami will air the show’s first season starting January 7, 2017 at 8:00PM and 11:30PM Eastern.

Dragon Ball Super‘s first season covers the storylines found in the Battle of the Gods and Resurrection ‘F’ films.

Jason DeMarco, Adult Swim’s senior vice president of on-air content, commented on the news:

Toonami and the Dragon Ball franchise have a long and storied history together in the U.S. […] We are thrilled to be premiering “Dragon Ball Super” to our audience and keeping Dragon Ball on Toonami!

Dragon Ball Super began airing on July 5, 2015 on Fuji TV. The series is being helmed by Kimitoshi Chioka (episodes 1-32) and Morio Hatano (ep 33 – present) at Toei Animation, with Tadayoshi Yamamuro (Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Beet the Vandel Buster) providing character designs. The show is the first new Dragon Ball TV series to air since Dragon Ball GT in 1996.
