Key Visual

Hiroe drew the visual himself. The image will also be used for a poster in the January 2017 issue of Shogakukan’s Sunday GX magazine when it hits newsstands tomorrow.

The first staff members attached to the project were also unveiled. Ei Aoki (Fate/Zero, The Garden of Sinners) will direct the series at Troyca. He’ll be collaborating with Rei Hiroe on series composition. Hiroe was listed as providing the original concept and character designs for the project.

Aniplex and Shogakukan will present the first full promo video on December 29, at Comiket 91. The booth will distribute promotional goods for the project.

Rei Hiroe is best known for his work on Black Lagoon, which began publication in Shogakukan’s Sunday GX magazine in 2002. The series is ongoing, though it went on hiatus in January 2014. Hiroe is slated to resume work on the title in the spring. Ten collected volumes have been released to date, with the most recent hitting stores in May 2014.

Black Lagoon received an anime adaptation in 2006, as well as OVA sequel Roberta’s Blood Trail in 2010. Both titles were produced by Madhouse, with Sunao Katabuchi helming the project. Geneon Enetertainment originally released the Black Lagoon TV series in North America. Funimation rescued the show’s license, and re-released it on DVD and Blu-Ray in 2012. Funimation also released Roberta’s Blood Trail under their banner.

Viz Media currently holds the rights to the Black Lagoon manga.
