Over the weekend, the cast of Macross Delta held a series of concerts at the Yokohama Arena. These events, known officially as “Walkūre ga Tomaranai,” second concert, which was held today, closed with a teaser video, which confirmed that a new Macross anime project is in the works. The series is currently slated to hit Japanese TV in 2018.

The series is being produced as part of a 35th anniversary celebration for the Macross franchise. Several other anniversary-related projects were announced at the concert, including:

  • Virtual Reality Project
  • Live Concert
  • Planetarium
  • Projection Mapping Display
  • Toy Projects

The video kicked off with images of characters from the myriad Macross anime titles across the franchise’s history.

Macross Delta is the latest entry into the long-running Macross franchise. The series is being directed by Kenji Yasuda (Noein – to your other self) at Satelight, with series creator Shoji Kawamori serving as chief director. The team of Majiro (Barakamon) and Yuu Shindou (My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU) will provide character designs for the project, while also serving as chief animation directors. Toshizo Nemoto (Log Horizon) will supervise and provide scripts.
