Mike Ferreira: Welcome to the Herald Anime Club. I’m Mike Ferreira, and tonight, I’m joined by L.B. Bryant and Anthony Simpson
Anthony Simpson: Evening everyone.
L.B. Bryant: Hello!
Mike Ferreira: Tonight, we’ll be talking nerdy to you all as we discuss Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid episode 10: That Christmas Show.
Anthony Simpson: A fun Christmas episode if I do say so myself.
Mike Ferreira: Agreed. They really did hit all the right notes this time.
L.B. Bryant: There are a couple of highlights in particular that really hit me hard in either the feels or the funny bone.
Mike Ferreira: I’m loving how Elma can literally be bribed with candy at this point.
L.B. Bryant: Funniest part of the episode for me was Fafnir as the director.
Anthony Simpson: Hands down this was favorite episode.
L.B. Bryant: Followed closely by the moment he calls Tohru to say that the Match Girl needs to be a magical girl!
Mike Ferreira: Definitely. That and his phone call saying “let’s turn this into a magical girl show”
Mike Ferreira: Jinx
Anthony Simpson: That was great.
Mike Ferreira: It really was.
L.B. Bryant: What made that joke even better is that despite Tohru hanging up on him they did it anyway (laugh)
Mike Ferreira: That’s what made it brilliant. It could’ve been a good one-off gag, but they actually went there.
L.B. Bryant: Agreed.
Mike Ferreira: Poor Shouta, though – dragged into being the Little Match Girl at first.
Anthony Simpson: Shouta as Little Match was cute AF.
Mike Ferreira: He was.
Mike Ferreira: But yeah… Like… who’d have thought we’d get Puella Magi Little Match Girl?

Anthony Simpson: That was excellent. I think what I liked so much about the idea of the play was that they took something and made a better product in the end by being so out there with the ideas.
Mike Ferreira: Definitely. And they made it work.
Mike Ferreira: From Tohru being this epic heroine, to Lucoa being the Fanservice Fairy, god damn it, they made that production work
Mike Ferreira: Even the little interludes were great, with Kanna getting more and more desperate to attract Santa
Anthony Simpson: This reminded me a bit of the South Park episode Helen Keller! The Musical.
Mike Ferreira: …I honestly didn’t think about that, but it makes so much sense
Anthony Simpson: Kanna was in prime moe mode this episode.
L.B. Bryant: I think the part of the production that hit me in the feels the hardest was Kobayashi learning to trust Tohru to not go too far and stopping herself from stepping in.
Anthony Simpson: Well not in the same league that happened in that episode of South Park.
L.B. Bryant: Death by moe.

Mike Ferreira: Definitely. That was just a beautiful moment – seeing her get ready to jump in, then watching as she noticed everybody having a good time.
Anthony Simpson: Kanna had me like HHHNGGG this whole episode.
Anthony Simpson: I felt forehead girl this episode when Kanna touches here.
Mike Ferreira: …That was a weird scene at the party, though – Saikawa just pure love while being literally ridden by Kanna
L.B. Bryant: lol Yeah, I noticed that too
L.B. Bryant: It only lasted for a few seconds but it caught my eye
Mike Ferreira: Yeah. It was one of those things that just makes the brain go “hello. O_o”
Mike Ferreira: Like… “that doesn’t look good”
Anthony Simpson: I was wondering where that twitter meme was coming from.
L.B. Bryant: This series is kind of good at that. Sweet episode that makes you laugh… quick visual gag with elementary school girls riding each other…. back to feels and laughs.
Mike Ferreira: Definitely.
Mike Ferreira: Like, that closing moment of the episode where Kobayashi and Tohru are cruising through the night – that was just adorable… then you get “dildo monster you grind up for back pain”
L.B. Bryant: lol Yeah I was just about to bring that up.
Anthony Simpson: I got a kick of Kobayashi being surprised that her apartment all of the sudden had a fireplace and chimeny.
Mike Ferreira: Then the neon signs
L.B. Bryant: Kanna waiting impatiently for Santa was adorbs.
Mike Ferreira: Indeed. Poor Kobayashi, though – trapped while Kanna lay awake and irritated.
L.B. Bryant: lol that was a great payoff

Anthony Simpson: Kanna was basically in zenith moe mode this whole episode. Waiting for Santa was that at its zenith.
Mike Ferreira: Indeed. Kanna was just at her best this entire episode
Mike Ferreira: It kind of makes me wonder how the remaining two episodes will go.
Anthony Simpson: I have no intention of having children in real life, but Kanna had the potential father figure in me coming out and waiting to tell her about Santa coming.
L.B. Bryant: I’m not ready to say good bye to this series.
Mike Ferreira: Neither am I.
Anthony Simpson: Same.
Anthony Simpson: I’m not sure what they are going to do either.
Mike Ferreira: First Blu-Ray hit three days ago as of this meeting – we’ll know its fate soon enough
Mike Ferreira: But yeah… I’m 100% down for another season
Anthony Simpson: I wouldn’t mind either.
L.B. Bryant: I’m on board for that.
Anthony Simpson: I wouldn’t mind a spin off of Kanna just eating stuff for 30 minutes for 12 or 13 episodes.
Anthony Simpson: Koyani if you reading this I back a kickstater for Kanna spin off series.
Mike Ferreira: As a short-form it’d have more substance than some shows out there. Kanna eats, Forehead Girl swoons, maybe show a moment with Kobayashi and Tohru, credits.

Anthony Simpson: Hell it could just a 30 minute OVA.
Mike Ferreira: That’d work too
L.B. Bryant: That’s more substance than some long form shows Mike
Mike Ferreira: Hey – we can’t have every show be the masterpiece that is Seiren. (dear god I can’t say that with a straight face)
L.B. Bryant: lol
Mike Ferreira: But yeah… I’d be super down for a second season of Dragon Maid.
Anthony Simpson: I would too, that said there isn’t enough manga material for a “proper” second season. Like they could do a second season but it likely have a lot of original material.
Anthony Simpson: Or at least take the stuff they didn’t adapt and make material with that.
Mike Ferreira: True enough. I’d be content with waiting, though – I mean… so long as they don’t half-ass it, they can take all the time they need
Anthony Simpson: Kyoani is pretty good with adapting from source materials so I’m sure they would do a good job.
Mike Ferreira: Agreed.
Mike Ferreira: It’s when we get into original territory that they get hit or miss – for every Free!, there’s a Chunibyo season 2
Anthony Simpson: well nobody bats a 1000 all the time.
Mike Ferreira: True enough.
Mike Ferreira: Aniwho, it looks like we’re reaching our time for the week. Any closing thoughts?
Anthony Simpson: Favorite episode so far of the series. Just a solid episode all around.
Mike Ferreira: Agreed. More like this in our last couple of weeks!
Mike Ferreira: Anyway, thanks as always for joining this week. Have a great night!
