Escaflowne Producer Minoru Takanashi Passes Away

Gaea beckons for all of us, eventually. Some just find it sooner than others.

Earlier today, illustrator and character designer Nobuteru Yuki took to Twitter to report that Minoru Takanashi passed away.

Rough Translation: Bandai Visual producer Minoru Takanashi passed away. I don’t think that Escaflowne could have been realized without his planning powers. 2199 was also highly appreciated, and he had an eye for the various goods being developed, like “Let’s do it!” His eyes were always sparkling. We pray for your peace.

Takanashi helped to develop content at Bandai Visual for nearly three decades. He was Bandai’s producer behind numerous prominent works, including Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, Vision of Escaflowne, and Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory. In addition, He worked on numerous Super Dimension Fortress Macross projects, including Macross II, Macross Plus, Macross 7, and Macross Zero.

Prior to joining the industry, Takanashi was a part of the “Macross Attack Team.” This was a group of fans who created the influential Sky Angels dōjinshi.
