It’s time to party like it’s 1999… uh… again!
Over the past few days, Adult Swim’s Toonami block added The Big O into their streaming digital feed. The show’s first season is being offered as a linear broadcast, which rotates shows in a more organized broadcast schedule.
Sentai Filmworks will release The Big O on Blu-Ray on June 20. The release, which includes both seasons of the show, will carry a suggested price of $79.98. Both English and Japanese audio will be included in the set.
The Big O originally hit Japanese TV in the Fall 1999 broadcast season> The series was helmed by Kazuyoshi Katayama (Appleseed, Sentimental Journey) at Sunrise, with Keiichi Satou (City Hunter: The Motion Picture, Ninja Resurrection) providing character designs. The team of Chiaki J. Konaka and Kazuyoshi Katayama wrote the screenplay.
Bandai Entertainment originally released The Big O in North America. The series saw several TV runs on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block and G4TechTV Canada.
Sentai announced that they rescued the license to the series in 2013, along with eleven other Sunrise properties. They describe The Big O as:
