New Visual for Production I.G.’s “Legend of the Galactic Heroes” Hits the Web

The grand epic returns once again.

Earlier today, the official website for Production I.G.’s The Legend of the Galactic Heroes updated with a new visual. The image, which was dubbed an “opening visual,” depicts Reinhard as he gazes at the starry skies above.

The visual was also published in the latest issue of Tokuma Shoten’s Animage magazine (June 2017).

In addition, the site confirmed that main characters Reinhard, Kircheis, and Yang Wen-li, will be recast for the project.

A promotional event for the new The Legend of the Galactic Heroes feature will be held on September 20, at the Shinjuku Cultural Center Tokyo. The function will introduce the titles’s new cast and crew, as well as a special teaser video. Ryo Horikawa, Masashi Hironaka, and Nozomu Sasaki, who played Reinhard, Kircheis, and Julian respectively, are slated to appear as guests.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes is a long-running anime series, based on Yoshiki Tanakaโ€™s influential series of sci-fi novels. It was a passion project by late director Noboru Ishiguro (Macross, Megazone 23), and his Artland anime studio. Ishiguro spent over a decade adapting the works as OVAs and theatrical films. Over 100 installments were made between 1988 and 2000.

Sadly, he passed away in 2012, due to a lung infection.

Over the summer, Sentai Filmworks licensed the Legend of the Galactic Heroes anime series, while Viz Media added the original novels.
