JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable made its global début on July 2, at Switzerland’s Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival. The feature will screen at Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival, which runs from July 13 through August 2.

The feature will make its grand Japan Debut on August 4.

Takashi Miike (Ichi the Killer, Ace Attorney) was tapped to direct the project.

The confirmed cast includes:

  • Josuke Higashikata: Kento Yamazaki
  • Koichi Hirose: Ryunosuke Kamiki
  • Yukako Yamagishi: Nana Komatsu
  • Keicho Nijimura: Masaki Okada
  • Okuyasu Nijimura: Mackenyu
  • Anjuro Katagiri: Takayuki Yamada
  • Jotaro Kujo: Yusuke Iseya
  • Tomoko Higashikata: Alisa Mizuki
  • Ryohei Higashikata: Jun Kunimura

Filming on the project wrapped in in Sitges, Spain, and is currently shooting in Japan. Though the manga’s city of Morioh is based on Sendai, Miike noted that he launched the project by scouting for locations on a global scale. In his search, Miike came across Sitges, and decided that it fits the fictional city.

According TBS producer Takashi Hirano, the team is looking into potential sequels. He noted that the arc is long, and won’t fit into the planned two hour run time. Hirano also revealed that team to adapt the Diamond is Unbreakable arc because it features a Japanese lead in a distinctly Japanese setting.

The producer added that the original Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure manga is popular across the globe, and that the other arcs feature non-Japanese protagonists. He feels that the manga’s cosmopolitan nature offers a chance to place Japanese cinema on a global stage. Hirano’s not sure how long this would take, but he feels that he and Miike share the same vision.

Two promo trailers, along with several visuals that feature the cast members in costume, have been released to promote the feature. You can check these out below:
