Yesterday, Sentai Filmworks announced that they will show the first film in the New Initial D trilogy at the Los Angeles Anime Film Festival. As of press time, The film, titled New Theatrical Movie Initial D Legend 1: Awakening (Shin Gekijō-ban Initial D Legend 1 -Kakusei-, will be shown on September 16 at 4:30 PM Pacific (7:30PM Eastern).

As of press time, Sentai and hte LA Anime Film Festival have yet to confirm whether the screening will be in subtitled or dubbed format.

the New Initial D film trilogy retells the events of the first volumes of the original Initial D manga. Masamitsu Hidaka (Pokémon, Linebarrels of Iron) directed the movies at Liden Films, with Koji Haneda (Scar-red Rider XechS, Sengoku Paradise Kiwami) providing character designs. Mayori Sekijima (Saber Marionette J, Skip Beat!) wrote the scripts.

Sentai Filmworks announcd that they acquired the features in July. They describe the title as:

Based on the original Initial D manga by Shuichi Shigeno, the movie trilogy is a retelling centered around the adventures of a bleak, uninspired high school senior named Takumi Fujiwara. Despite having no interest in racing, he ends up caught in an exhilarating world which ends up being far more dangerous than he imagined. As Takumi gets drawn deeper into the underworld of drag racing, he meets Keisuke, a competent racer, and his brother Ryosuke, the leader of the Red Suns.

The first film, Awakening, opened in August 2014. The second movie premiered in May 2016, while the third and final feature debuted in February 2016.
