Dies Irae will hit Japanese TV on October 6. Both Tokyo MX and BS11 will carry the show. Streaming service Abema TV will stream simultaneously with the BS11 airings. The series is slated to run for at least fourteen episodes.

Crunchyroll announced that they will stream the show as part of their Fall 2017 simulcast lineup. The series will stream in all regions outside of Asia at a to-be-determined date and time.

Dies Irae is based on game developer Light’s visual novel of the same name. Susumu Kudo (Coppelion, Sakura Wars 2 OVA) is directing the project at ACGT, with Takaaki Fukuyo providing character designs. Takashi Masada is in charge of series composition for the project.

The confirmed voice cast includes:

  • Ren Fujii: Kousuke Toriumi
  • Marie: Yui Sakakibara
  • Eleonore Von Wittenburg: Asami Yaguchi
  • Kasumi Ayase: Ayaka Fukuhara
  • Göetz Von Berlichingen: Hiroki Yasumoto
  • Isaak: Hitomi Nabatame
  • Rea Himuro: Hitomi Nabatame
  • Reinhard Heydrich: Junichi Suwabe
  • Beatrice Waltrud von Kircheisen: Kei Mizusawa
  • Kai Sakurai: Kei Mizusawa
  • Valeria Trifa: Ken Narita
  • Wilhelm Ehrenburg: Kishō Taniyama
  • Spinne: Kouki Harasawa
  • Mercurius: Kousuke Toriumi
  • Riza Brenner: Risato Habuki
  • Shirō Yusa: Takeshi Maeda
  • Erii Honjō: Yoshina Makino
  • Rusalka Schwägerin: Yuka Inokuchi
  • Wolfgang Schreiber: Yuki Tamaki

Much of the cast is returning from the original Dies Irae visual novel. That said, Ayaka Fukuhara is replacing Michiru Yuimoto as Kasumi.

Yui Sakakibara, who plays Marie in the series, will perform opening theme song Kadenz, while Junichi Suwabe and Kousuke Toriumi’s music unit Phero☆Men handles the closing theme. She also handled the theme song for the original visual novel.

Crunchyroll describes Dies Irae as:

Ren Fujii is a normal student who just had a fistfight with his former best friend, leading him to break off their friendship. But with the help of his childhood friend, Kasumi Ayase, and upperclassman, Rea Himuro, he’s gradually returning to his normal school life.

Then a series of brutal murders in which the victims are decapitated begins to strike their city. Strangely, at the same time, Ren starts to have terrifying nightmares of being beheaded by a guillotine. But these are just a prelude to the painful and terrifying battles to come.

Their daily life has turned inside-out. Supermen are lurking in the darkness. The town has become a battlefield as Ren is consumed by insane happenings beyond his imagination. Faced with the reality that he cannot survive unless he fights, will he be able to retake his normal life?
