This is not a drill, folks. More Drifters is on the way!

Earlier today, the official Drifters anime website updated with details on the show’s upcoming second season.

The site confirmed that episodes 13 & 14 will be released on Blu-Ray on December 23. Both standard and limited-editions will be released for the title.

The standard edition will carry a retail price of 5,800 yen ($51.10 USD) when it ships to stores. The limited edition, which is priced at 6,800 yen ($59.90 USD), will include the following:

  • Outer case illustrated by series creator Kouta Hirano
  • Wrap illustrated by series character designer Ryoji Nakamori
  • 72-Page Companion Booklet
  • A “Bonus Video”
  • A Drama CD
  • A “Mystery Disc”

The site also revealed the first new cast member for the upcoming season. Tomoaki Maeno will play Banzelmashin Shylock VIII in the series. A visual for the character, which we’ve provided below, was revealed with the cast confirmation.

AbemaTV will stream Episode 13, along with a retrospective of the first season at an unspecified future date. The Drifters team will host a booth at Kyoto’s Uzumasa Jyouraku Matsuri event on November 18 – 19.

Last month, series director Kenichi Suzuki announced that the Blu-Ray release of episodes 13 and 14 would be the start of the show’s second season. He elaborated on the plot, explaining that Episode 13 would feature a conflict between Nobunaga and Saint-Germi.

Drifters is based on Hellsing creator Kouta Hirano’s manga of the same name. Kenichi Suzuki (Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Gundam Evolve) directed the project, with Ryoji Nakamori (Hellsing Ultimate) providing character designs. Hideyuki Kurata (Oreimo, The World God Only Knows) was in charge of series composition.

The series, which aired in the Fall 2017 broadcast season, ended on December 23, 2016. The episode closed with a black screen, which reads “To be continued Second Season. See you again Tokyo 20XX. Sayonara.”

Funimation announced that they acquired the rights (video, VOD, streaming, and broadcast) to Drifters at Anime Expo 2016. They describe the series as:

From the creator and team behind Hellsing comes a thrilling story where history and fantasy collide. Shimazu Toyohisa, a famous samurai who fought in the historical Battle of Sekigahara, is transported to another world when only moments from death. From that moment on, he becomes part of a group known as “Drifters” and is forced to battle against other legendary warriors in an ultimate death game.
