All that glitters isn’t gold, but this is pretty close? Kinda?

earlier today, the official The Silver Guardian (Gin no Guardian) anime website updated with two new cast members, as well as a key visual, the core staff, and a premiere date for the show’s second season.

The new run is imaginatively titled The Silver Guardian II. We break the details down below:

Key Visual

The visual features the major cast members, posing in front of a dark background that’s cris-crossed by magical energies. Lead character Riku Sui Gin stands front and center.

Staff

Haoling Li is taking the reins as chief director and writer for The Silver Guardian II. Ken Ando (Ar Tonelico OVA) will take the director’s chair on the project at Emon Animation Company, while Yoshiaki Tsubata (Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~, Souten no Ken) returns as character designer.

Minako Seki (Kingdom, Black Clover) is scoring the show’s soundtrack. Studio BLADE is listed as providing animation assistance.

Haoling Li is the founder of the Haoliners Animation League.

Cast

Two new cast members were confirmed for the season:

  • Seifū: Kana Asumi
  • Randen Yu: Sōichiro Hoshi

The new players join six confirmed returning cast members:

  • Riku Sui Gin: Jun Fukuyama
  • Riku Lei: Yuka Saitou
  • Temujin: Atsuki Tani
  • Twin Star: Ami Koshimizu
  • Farin: Nozomi Nishida
  • Riku Yuuki: Takayuki Sugo

The Silver Guardian II, will premiere on January 13, 2018. Tokyo MX will carry the series in Japan.

The Silver Guardian first aired on Tokyo MX in the Spring 2018 broadcast season. The show is based on Chinese comic series Yín Zhī Shǒu Mù Rén. Masahiko Ohkura (Yukikaze, Blue Drop) directed the show at Haoliners Emon, with Yoshiaki Tsubata (Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~, Souten no Ken) providing character designs. Ohkura was in charge of series composition, along with Hidefumi Kimura (Avenger, Kiddy Grade).

Funimation streamed The Silver Guardian as a SimulDub. They describe the show as:

High school students and pro-level gamers Riku Suigin and Riku Rei are about to get swept up in an RPG unlike any other they’ve played before. Before her mysterious disappearance, Rei sends Suigin a device to access a new tomb raiding game. Upon inspecting it, Suigin is transported into the game where it’s up to him to put his skills to the test to save his friend.
