I guess this is the “equivalent exchange” to last week’s bombshell?

On January 1, Netflix started streaming Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood on their digital platform in the United States. Both shows are available in their entirety in dubbed and subtitled formats.

Fullmetal Alchemist

Fullmetal Alchemist (2003)

Fullmetal Alchemist is based on Hiromu Arakawa’s manga of the same name. The 51-episode series was directed by Seiji Mizushima (Concrete Revolutio, The Slayers NEXT) at Bones, with Yoshiyuki Ito (Soul Eater, Space Dandy) providing character designs.

Funimation originally released Fullmetal Alchemist in North America. The company’s license for the series officially expired on July 31, 2016, causing the rights to revert to Japanese licensor Aniplex. Aniplex of America currently distributes the title in North America.

Netflix describes the title as:

Brothers Edward and Alphonse use alchemy to resurrect their mother, but they unleash a chemical reaction that tears apart their bodies.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is based on Hiromu Arakawa’s Fullmetal Alchemist manga. The series is a reboot of the franchise that originally aired in the spring 2009 broadcast season. Yasuhiro Irie (Code: Breaker) helmed the series at Bones, with Hiroki Kanno (RahXephon, Yu Yu Hakusho The Movie: Poltergeist Report) providing character designs. Hiroshi Ohnogi (Birdy the Mighty: Decode, Kekkaishi) took charge of series composition on the project.

Funimation originally released Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood in North America. The company’s license for the series, as well as sequel film Conqueror of Shamballa officially expired on March 31, 2016, causing the rights to revert to Japanese licensor Aniplex. Aniplex describes the show as:

Disregard for alchemy’s laws ripped half of Ed Elric’s limbs from his body and left Al’s soul clinging to a suit of armor. To restore what was lost, the brothers seek the Philosopher’s Stone. Enemies and allies – the corrupt military, the Homunculi, and foreign alchemists – will alter the Elric’s course, but their purpose will remain unchanged and their bond unbreakable
