It seems that Hulu’s preparing for a few truly fantastical adventures this winter.

Earlier today, Hulu announced that they will stream five new titles as part of their Winter simulcast lineup. The publisher will add the following:

  • Basilisk: The Ouka Ninja Scrolls (1/8/2018)
  • Overlord Season 2 (1/9/2018)
  • DARLING in the FRANXX (1/13/2018)
  • Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card (1/7/2018)
  • Record of Grancrest War (1/5/2018)

Hulu will also continue their ongoing simulcasts for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations (Wednesdays) and Black Clover (Tuesdays).

In addition to their simulcasts, the publisher launched the dubbed adaptation of Assassination Classroom Season 2, Part 2.

Basilisk: The Ouka Ninja Scrolls

Junji Nishimura (Ranma ½, Zenki) was tapped to direct Basilisk: The Ouka Ninja Scrolls at Seven Arcs Pictures, with Takao Maki (Laughing Under the Clouds) providing character designs. Shinsuke Onishi (Night Raid 1931, The Third: The Girl with the Blue Eye) is in charge of series composition for the project.

The series is based on Futaroh Yamada’s Ōka Ninpōchō Basilisk Shinshō (Ōka Ninja Scrolls Basilisk New Chapter) novel, which is a direct sequel to the original Kōga Ninpōchō (Kouga Ninja Scrolls). The book is set ten years after the events of the original Kouga Ninja Scrolls, in the year 1626.

Hulu describes the show as:

The battle for succession that continued for three generations of shogun in the Keichou era culminated in a gruesome battle of ninja arts between the Kouga and Iga clans. Amidst a rain of flower petals, a man and woman who had decided to live for love were separated once again, beautiful in their transience. However, it is said that by the hand of Hattori Hanzo’s adopted son, Kyouhachirou, these two flower petals, whether temporarily or permanently, were given life again and left two mementos behind. These children, born with a destiny of their own, were called Kouga Hachirou and Iga Hibiki. The former had eyes like his father’s, and the latter had eyes like her mother’s. It is now the Kan’ei era, and the land is at peace. As ninjas begin to disappear into the shadows after being deemed unnecessary, The Kouga and Iga clans ask a favor of Hachirou and Hibiki in hopes of reinforcing their foundations.

Overlord

Naoyuki Itou is returning to direct Overlord‘s second season at Madhouse, with Yukie Sugawara back in charge of series composition. Character designer Takahiro Yoshimatsu (Desert PunkTrigun) will be joined by Satoshi Tasaki (No Game, No Life Zero, Rideback) this time around.

Hulu describes the title as:

When a popular MMORPG is scheduled to be shut down permanently, veteran player Momonga refuses to log out. As NPCs begin to develop personalities and minds of their own he decides to put his skills to use as the game’s new overlord.

DARLING in the FRANXX

DARLING in the FRANXX is a co-production between Trigger and A-1 Pictures. The series is slated to hit Japanese TV in January 2018.

Atsushi Nishigori (THE IDOLM@STER) is directing the project, with Masayoshi Tanaka (anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, High School of the Dead) providing character designs. The team of Atsushi Nishigori and Naotaka Hayashi will collaborate on series composition.

Hulu Describes the series as:

They dream of one day flying into the endless sky, even though they are painfully aware of how far away the sky is beyond the glass that blocks their flight. The distant future: Humanity established the mobile fort city, Plantation, upon the ruined wasteland and civilization flourished. Within the city were pilot quarters called Mistilteinn, otherwise known as the “Birdcage.” That is where the children live… Not knowing anything of the outside world, and unaware of the vast sky. Their only mission in life was the fight. Their enemies are the mysterious giant organisms known as Kyoryu. The children operate robots known as FRANXX in order to face these still unseen enemies because they believe that is their purpose in life. Among them was a boy who was once called a child prodigy: Code number 016, Hiro. However, now he’s a failure and considered unneeded. Those who cannot pilot FRANXX basically do not exist. One day, a mysterious girl called Zero Two appears in front of Hiro. From her face grew two alluring horns. “I’ve found you, my Darling.”

Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card

The series, which adapts the recent “Clear Card Chapter” of the Cardcaptor Sakura manga, will be directed by Morio Asaka (Cardcaptor Sakura, My Love Story!!, Chihayafuru) at Madhouse. Kunihiko Hamada (Chihayafuru, NANA) is providing character designs for the project, while Nanase Ohkawa (Magic Knight Rayearth 2, Blood-C) takes charge of series composition.

Guided by the Key of Dreams, Sakura embarks on a new adventure! Sakura had managed to capture all of the Clow Cards which could bring disaster to the world and turned them into her own Sakura Cards. Now it’s spring. With cherry trees in full blossom, Sakura is just entering middle school. Her beloved Syaoran has returned from Hong Kong, and Sakura was thrilled to be going to school with him again. But one night, something strange happens to her Cards… On top of that, strange things keep happening in Tomoeda. Guided by the Key she encountered in her dream, Sakura starts collecting Cards again. And then, a new girl transfers into her class…

Record of Grancrest War

Record of Grancrest War is based on a light novel series by Record of Lodoss War creator Ryo Mizuno and illustrator Miyuu. Mamoru Hatakeyama (Sankarea: Undying Love, Hakkenden: Eight Dogs of the East) was tapped to direct the project at A-1 Pictures, with Hiroshi Yakou providing character designs. The team of Ryo Mizuno (Record of Lodoss War) and Shunsaku Yano will take charge of series composition.

Hulu describes the title as:

Fearing disaster brought about by chaos, the people lived protected by “Lords.” Those with the power of “Crests,” used to suppress the chaos. However, the Lords decided to abandon their posts and began fighting against each other secretly in war, stealing each other’s Crests to gain dominion over one another. Among these people are Siluca, a lone mage who despises the Lords, and Theo, a vagrant knight who continues his journey of training to someday liberate his homeland from tyrannical rule. They make an oath as master and retainer, with hopes of bringing reform Atlatan, the land ruled by chaos.
