Crunchyroll Adds “Slow Start,” “Sanrio Boys”, 2 More to Winter 2018 Simulcasts


Crunchyroll certainly isn’t starting slow with this season’s simulcast lineup.

Last night, Crunchyroll announced that they will add four titles to their Winter 2018 simulcast lineup. The service will stream the following:

  • Slow Start
  • Sanrio Boys
  • Karakai Jozu no Takagi-san
  • IDOLISH7

Slow Start

Premiere Date: 1/6/2018 at 10:00AM Pacific (1:00PM Eastern)

Hiroyuki Hashimoto (Is the order a rabbit?, Magical Girl Raising Project) is directing Slow Start at A-1 Pictures, with Masato Yasuno (Flying Witch) providing character designs. Mio Inoue is in charge of series composition for the project.

Crunchyroll describes the show as:

Hana Ichinose is a very shy and introverted girl about to start high school in the spring. After moving away from her parent’s house in the city due to unforeseen circumstances, she decides to live at an apartment managed by her cousin, Shion, called Temari Heights. A new school, new life, and wonderful new friendships. As Hana gradually opens her heart to the people around her, her life begins to unfold with exciting and cheerful moments. From playing around like children to feeling anxious like an adult… This is an adorable and heart-warming tale about growing up…slowly.

Karakai Jozu no Takagi-san

Karakai Jozu no Takagi-san is based on Sōichirō Yamamoto’s manga of the same name. Hiroaki Akagi (Hina Logic – from Luck & Logic) will direct the show at Shin-Ei Animation, with Aya Takano (Himouto! Umaru-chan, Polar Bear’s Cafe) providing character designs. Michiko Yokote (Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!, Genshiken) is in charge of series composition for the project.

Crunchyroll describes the title as:

“I swear I’m going to tease and embarrass Takagi-san today!”

Nishikata, a middle-schooler, keeps getting teased by the girl who sits next to him in class, Takagi-san.

He tries every day to get back at her, but will he ever succeed? Takagi-san and Nishikata’s youthful teasing battle starts now!

Sanrio Boys

Sanrio Boys is a multimedia project from (surprise!) Sanrio. The project officially launched in January 2016 with a Twitter account. In April 2016, a web manga by Mai Ando hit the MangaOne app, and Sanrio rolled out an official merchandise line. A second manga by Ando debuted in Shogakukan’s Sho-Comi magazine in June.

Masashi Kudo (Hayate the Combat Butler! Cuties, Re-Kan!) is directing the anime adaptation at Studio Pierrot, with Atsuko Nakajima (Haunted Junction, Ranma ½) providing character designs. Takashi Aoshima (Yuruyuri – Happy Go Lily, Aho-Girl) is in charge of series composition.

Hasegawa Kouta, 17 years old, is a second-year high school student.

The IDOLISH7 anime is part of a multimedia project from Bandai Namco. Makoto Bessho (El-Hazard: The Wanderers, Armitage: Dual-Matrix) is directing the series at Troyca, with Kazumi Fukagawa providing character designs. Ayumi Sekine (Baka and Test – Summon the Beasts, Utano☆Princesama Revolutions) is in charge of series composition for the title. Ei Aoki is credited as a supervisor for the project

A group of aspiring idols gather at Takanashi Productions and are entrusted with the company’s future. The seven men who have just met represent a variety of totally different personalities. However, they each have their own charm and possess unknown potential as idols. Forming a group, they take their first step together as “IDOLiSH7.” Their brilliantly shining dancing forms onstage eventually begin captivating the hearts of the people.
