Funimation to SimulDub Overlord Season 2

The mighty overlord is ready to return to familiar lands.

Yesterday, Funimation announced that they will produce a SimulDub for Overlord‘s second season. The publisher will reveal a specific date and cast details at a later date.

The show returns to Japanese TV later today. Hulu previously announced that they will stream the title as part of their simulcast lineup.

Naoyuki Itou is returning to direct Overlord‘s second season at Madhouse, with Yukie Sugawara back in charge of series composition. Character designer Takahiro Yoshimatsu (Desert PunkTrigun) will be joined by Satoshi Tasaki (No Game, No Life Zero, Rideback) this time around.

The first Overlord anime season aired during the summer 2015 broadcast season. Two compilation films opened earlier this year. The first film, Overlord: Fushisha no Ō debuted on February 25. The sequel, Overlord: Shikkoku no Senshi opened on March 11.

Funimation currently holds the rights to the original Overlord anime, which they streamed as it aired on their FunimationNow service. They describe the series as:

From the studio that brought you Death Parade, Parasyte, and No Game No Life comes a series that takes place in the world of Yggdrasil, an MMORPG that’s scheduled to be shut down permanently. With no family or friends outside the game, veteran player Momonga refuses to log out. As the servers go dark, he discovers that the world inside the game continues to change as NPCs begin to develop personalities and minds of their own. With a new world at his fingertips, Momonga decides to use his power and skill to stake control of Yggdrasil and become its overlord.
