Crunchyroll Adds “Maerchen Maedchen” to Winter 2018 Simulcasts

Don’t worry, folks, you don’t have to type the umlauts anymore.

Earlier today, Crunchyroll announced that they will stream Maerchen Maedchen (Märchen Mädchen, lit. Fairy Tale Girls) to their Winter 2018 simulcast lineup. The series launched at 8:00AM Pacific (11:00AM Eastern) for subscribers in the following regions:

  • North America
  • UK
  • Ireland
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • Scandinavia
  • South Africa
  • Netherlands
  • Latin America

Hisashi Saito (The Testament of Sister New Devil, Heaven’s Lost Property) is serving as Chief Director on the project, while Shigeru Ueda (Elemental Gelade, RIN – Daughters of Mnemosyne) takes the director’s chair at Hoods Entertainment. Yuki Morikawa is providing character designs for the title, while late creator Tomohiro Matsu (Mayoi Neko Overrun!, Queen’s Blade: The Exiled Virgin) is credited with series composition.

fhána (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, The Eccentric Family) will perform the show’s currently-untitled opening theme song. Reina Ueda, who plays Arthur Pendragon, will perform the closing theme.

The confirmed voice cast includes:

  • Yumilia Qazan: Lynn
  • Shizuka Tsuchimikado: Rie Suegara
  • Hazuki Kagimura: Tomori Kusunoki
  • Agathe Arier: Ai Kakuma
  • Maria Rasputin: Airi Ootsu
  • Lynne Daves: Rina Hidaka
  • Arthur Pendragon: Reina Ueda
  • Ariko Kasumi: Kaede Hondo
  • Headmaster: Akemi Okamura

Märchen Mädchen is based on a title that Matsu wrote over the course of three years before he passed away. The first novel, which is still attributed to him, hit stores on February 24.

Two other novels by Matsu, Mayoi Neko Overrun! and Listen to Me, Girls. I Am Your Father! both received anime adaptations. He also co-wrote the story concepts for Ixion Saga DT and handled series composition on Queen’s Blade: The Exiled Virgin.

Sadly, Matsu passed away last spring.
