Randomness Ensues

Fan Mods Pop Team Epic Into Skyrim

After that first episode, you knew this was going to happen.

The Pop Team Epic anime made its way to Japanese TV on January 6. The show’s premiere features one sketch, in which the series skips between numerous gaming and anime parodies, including Chrono Trigger and My Neighbor Totoro. During one of these skits, the scene jumps to the opening scene from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Well, kinda.

Instead of Ralof, the viewer is greeted by Popimi.

Since the show’s airing, a modder who goes by the handle “HIGEYOSI360” decided to bring this segment come to life in the actual realm of Skyrim. They released a Skyrim mod to DropBox, which adds “helmets” of Pop Team Epic characters Popuko and Popimi to the game. The result is, well… it works.

Anyway! Those who want to see the mod in action can check out the full intro below.

Pop Team Epic is a self-billed “shitty anime” that’s based on Bkub Okawa’s manga of the same name. The team of Aoi Umeki and Jun Aoki (Oshiruko – The Summertime Mischief) are directing the project at Kamikaze Douga. Aoki is also in charge of series composition duties, while Kotaro Sudo (Ajin – Demi-Human, Seitokai Yakuindomo) fills the dual role of planner and producer.

Crunchyroll, HIDIVE, Funimation, and other networks are streaming the show as it airs in Japan. Sentai Filmworks currently holds the show’s license.
Funimation describes the show as:

They’re crude, rude, and a little…cute? Get ready for the bizarre comedy antics of the small and tall Popuko and Pipimi!
