Aikatsu Friends! Anime Announced; Airs in April 2018

Apparently, these idols are getting by with a little help from their friends.

Earlier today, the official Aikatsu! website announced that a new entry in the franchise is in the works. A new anime series, titled Aikatsu Friends! will launch in April, along with a related “Data Carddass” arcade game.

A visual for the project was unveiled, which you can check out below. The tagline reads “Let’s go, together! Head for the goal, Diamond Friends!!

The Aikatsu! staff will host a “baton passing” event on February 4. Part of the event will be livestreamed on the official “AikatsuTV” YouTube channel. The full event will be released on the channel four days later, on February 8.

Aikatsu Friends! is the third entry in the franchise. The most recent entry, Aikatsu Stars! will run through March 29, and end on its 100th episode. Teruo Satoh is directing the show at Bandai Namco Pictures, with Yukiko Aikei (Accel World, Your Lie in April) providing character designs. Yuuko Kakihara (Chihayafuru 2, Orange) is in charge of series composition for the project.

The Aikatsu! franchise made its début in 2012 as an arcade game. The project inspired an anime series, which ran from 2012 through 2016, spanning 178 episodes.
