“Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet” Game Gets New Anime Short

It looks like the newest GGO adventure is a bit bigger than expected!

Earlier today, Bandai Namco started streaming a short “pilot edition” teaser for a short based on PlayStation 4 game Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet. The three-minute video introduces the core story beats through character narration, which is set against sepia-toned snippets of animation.

The full episode, titled Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet -The Third Episode-, will hit Japanese TV on March 19. Tokyo MX will carry the title.

Bandai Namco is currently holding an open audition for the voice of the girl character. Fans can submit entries via Twitter, which consist of a reading of a line provided by the official website. As of press time, 556 people have entered the contest.

Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet -The Third Episode- is unrelated to the main story from the game. Instead, the episode will revolve around a boy, who’s searching for a girl he met in the world of Gun Gale Online. The boy feels that they shared a real connection, while the girl feels that it’s just a fleeting fantasy. Soon, though, the two will find themselves tested on whether this bond is real or merely a passing fancy.

The short will be directed by YKBX (Ghost in the Shell: Arise Episode 3 & 4 openings).

Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet hit the PlayStation 4 in Japan on February 8. The title sold through 75,623 copies, which was enough to capture third place on the Media Create sale charts. The title will be released on the PS4, XBox One, and Steam on February 23.
