Funimation Streams Second Subbed “Free! Take Your Marks” Trailer


The Iwatobi Swim Club is coming back for another lap!

On Sunday, Funimation started streaming a teaser trailer for Free! -Take Your Marks-. The subtitled promo hypes up the film’s upcoming theatrical run.

Free! -Take Your Marks- hits theaters across the United States on March 3. The film will be shown in select theaters as a one-night-only show on March 14. The screening will also feature an animated introduction greeting and introduction to the film by the Free! cast, which previously ran as a Japanese theater exclusive.

Free! Take Your Marks hit Japanese theaters on October 28. The feature is the third in a trilogy of compilation movies, which covers the following episodes:

  • Unmei no Choice! (The Choice of Destiny!)
  • Hitou no Cooling Down! (Cooling Down at The Secret Hot Spring!)
  • Yakusoku no Butterfly! (Butterfly of The Promise!)
  • Tabidachi no Eternal Blue! (Eternal Blue of The Departure!)

Eisaku Kawanami was tapped to direct the film at Animation Do and Kyoto Animation, with Futoshi Nishiya (Free! – Iwatobi Swim Club, Nichijou – My Ordinary Life) providing character designs. Masahiro Yokotani (Free! – Iwatobi Swim Club, The Devil is a Part-Timer!) was in charge of the film’s script.

Funimation describes the film as:

Haru and Makoto are prepping to move to Tokyo, which means finding a place to live! While they’re off searching, Nagisa, Rei, and Gou are left coming up with something big to enlist new Iwatobi club members. But can they fill the pool or is the club’s future sinking fast?

Then, the boys of Samezuka are having their own time getting ready for the future! While Rin prepares for his move to Australia and Sousuke moves out of the dorm, Nitori and Momo want to do something big to thank their senpais. A visit to the hot springs should do the trick, right? But a misunderstanding about Gou could leave Rin unsettled and only a challenge in the water can set his mind at ease!
